This work starts from a reflection about the relationship between artwork-spectator and artist-institution, from the inaccessibility that occurs sometimes in art (especially in contemporary art): the inability to reach the work, the content, the institution… This inaccessibility can be correlated due to social indifference, either because of the ignorance or the loss of the key to understand the work and/or because of imposed constraints. Therefore, my proposal consists of a minimal installation (in terms of form) where the visual content that reaches us is visible at first sight. A work that is activated, that makes sense, depending on the behavior of the viewer who will be tested in a very simple way.
It’s a text (in a single line) on the back wall of the room and a colored line on the floor, just at the entrance of the transverse space, on the side walls.
The line on the floor, a yellow tape, refuses –supposedly– the approach to what seems to be the work which is stuck to the wall: the writing. It, in the distance, doesn’t seem a text but a line, they are confused. The readability can create expectations, the curiosity to see what it says and speculations about the fact of a work being guarded by a line. It works as a key. Reaching or not the work respecting the imposed constraints will depend on the spectator’s behavior.
The text says as follows: I ÉS QUAN T’APROPES QUE M’ENTENS, EM DEIXES PARLAR I EM VEUS D’UNA ALTRA MANERA [And it is when you come closer that you understand me, let me speak and see me in another way]. 2012. Installation. Text on adhesive vinyl and adhesive color vinyl. Variable measures.
